Thanks for the good words! I do lots of different things for Charles, among them marketing and PR. Was just curious where you are based?

Hi Tom,
I appreciate your blog and what you do and I think that you know your stuff when talking about wine. Only one misleading point from your “about Personal Wine Buyer” page, you say: “Too many people buy wine based on ratings from the Wine Spectator or Robert Parker. I believe that it is more important (and much more rewarding) to match wines to individual palates — and also to expand your palate.” but when reading some of your posts, I realized that you continue to include the Parker or WineSpectator ratings, isn’t it a bit contradictory?
No offense, just a little remark. As a Wine Buyer and Sommelier myself, I do not care about press or ratings and never include them in my blog posts. If people want to know about them that is their prerogative, but I will not mention the ratings. My nose and palate decide what I buy or not, and my passion and conviction are enough to convince my customers.
Keep up the good job!

Thanks for the comment. Your point is well taken…admittedly points and ratings are relevant to people — and I can’t say they are meaningless to me either — actually do read the Wine Doctor and his ratings are a reference point, as is Tanzer and some of the Parker clan — but it is something I have decided that I am not going to do. Tasting notes and the wine’s story matter much more to me (not to mention my own personal tastes which aren’t really aligned with anyone else except me) — and that is how I have decided to express my thoughts and impressions. In some cases, points or ratings do not bother me as much if presented within context of notes — the main thing I take issue with is the simple shelf talker that only references points and merchants pushing something because so and so have it this many points rather than trying to understand the customer’s palate, food pairing, etc. — and people just buying based on points alone.
I appreciate you reading and taking the time to write — thanks.
Hi Tom,
I’m glad that you took my little pertinent remark the right way. After all, a little rating here and there as you said, especially if embedded in your description as you do, is not a big deal. More over, even if I don’t put any in my posts because I do not care about ratings and press, I agree, people still like to see ratings. More over, after reading quite a few of your posts, I realized that it wasn’t something constant with you to put ratings, so I apologize for my French impertinence (sorry, it comes with the package when your French, can’t avoid it..). Keep up the good job. It is with people like you (and me) that we will help people to choose their wines just by writing with pure conviction and passion rather than with ratings.
Cheers!
Regards,

Do you have any clients that are looking to buy a private collection of primarily 1997 Brunello di Montalcino?
Hi Tom,
I came across your website while researching Le Vieux Donjon Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2005. I have a collection of these beautiful reds and I’m wondering if you have anyone who wants to buy it. Where are you located? I’m in Canada.
Thanks!
