   Thanks, Tom! G & I are actually driving up to Paso Robles tomorrow just to taste at Tablas Creek. I’ll be sure not to skip this during the tasting, like I often do with whites.

   Follow-up. We went to Tablas Creek two weekends ago. Well worth the trip to Paso. The wines we tried there which we liked best were the Cotes de Beaucastel (2004 for me, 2005 for G), their 2005 Estate Syrah (a steal at their VINsider price of under $23 bottle) and, surprise, their pitch-perfect Vermentino.

   We ended up with an evenly split case. A couple days after getting home, we popped a 2005 Syrah to see if it was as good as it seemed at the tasting. Nice balance, not too fruit-forward. I’d recommend it if you like a restrained yet still slightly new-worldy syrah. Smooth tannins without getting woody, dark fruits. I liked it enough at that price to order another 6.

   Another note about Tablas Creek. According to the tasting room manager, they farm organically. And they are seeing a lot of success with the few nearby wineries who are growing biodynamically. No plans for that themselves in the near future, but they seem intrigued. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my head about me to ask which wineries he was referring to.

   Thanks Ty — wish I had been able to visit Tablas Creek with you, or at least been on hand to share the 05 Syrah with you.

   AmByth says it is the only certified organic and biodynamic operation in Paso Robles — but I know that is always a bit of a fuzzy area.

   I will have to pick up some more of their wines….have been meaning to try their Vermentino.
