Linne Calodo is a family-owned and operated winery focused on the production of unique and exceptional, hand-crafted wines. The winery is owned and operated by Matt and Maureen Trevisan. The name, Linne Calodo, describes the distinctive calcareous soils of the west side of Paso Robles where the vineyards are located.
Matt and Maureen produce Rhone and Zinfandel blends. They state that their wines are driven by four factors; vineyard location, uncompromising viticultural practices, minimalist winemaking, and the desire to learn from experience. The vineyards are farmed sustainably and the crop loads reflect the natural balance of the vine. They believe in harvesting at the peak of ripeness to produce rich and concentrated wines.
The 2005 Nemeis is a blend of 85% Syrah, 11% Mourvedre, and 4% Grenache. Dark, inky violet in color. Syrah-dominated aromatics rise from glass with black cherry, dark fruit, cassis, bacon fat and some meaty notes. On the palate, loaded with velvety dark fruit and nice soft tannins. Earthy with some tar, graphite and a touch of pepper with a persistent finish. The alcohol is listed at 15.1%, it is pretty well integrated but there is some heat on the finish. Very broad, textured and lush.
I liked this wine a lot, but a wine that I would need to be in the right mood to enjoy. Certainly not a wine for the meek. I wouldn’t classify this as a fruit bomb. It is loaded with fruit, but it is also well structured and complex.
Recommended. I think I liked this more than Linne Calodo’s Sticks & Stones, which I enjoyed as well.
[...] I also love their Contrarian — a roussane-viogner blend and also was very impressed with the 2005 Nemesis. [...]
